Neighborhood Information for Woodley Park
During its formative days, Woodley Park was a summer retreat for elite Washingtonians, including Presidents Martin Van Buren and Grover Cleveland. It was also home to the prolific builder Harry Wardman, known for his row houses and large, ornate buildings. Wardman built a number of structures in his own community, including Wardman Park Hotel on Connecticut Avenue.
Surrounding neighborhoods include Cleveland Park to the north, Kalorama Triangle to the south and a cluster of enclaves to the west—Observatory Circle, Cathedral Heights and Massachusetts Avenue Heights. The large Smithsonian National Zoological Park lies directly east of Woodley Park.
