Columbia Heights Condos For Sale

Columbia Heights in Washington, DC presents an enticing combination of urban revitalization, cultural diversity and amazing condos for sale. But the upward transition in recent years has also had the logical result of skyrocketing real estate values.

Surrounding neighborhoods include Adams Morgan to the west, Mount Pleasant to the northwest and the U Street Corridor to the south.

This is a place known for its abundance of colorful row houses, as well as other historic buildings that have converted to condominiums. But there has also been a strong trend of new development as well, resulting in modern structures that provide a fascinating counterpoint to traditional architecture.

More About Columbia Heights

The Columbia Heights neighborhood dates back to early farmland and was also the site of the Washington City Race Course—a one-mile track that opened around 1802.  In 1821, Columbian College was founded, and later renamed George Washington University (GMU). The main campus eventually moved to Foggy Bottom. By the late 1880s, residential platting and development had begun, and by the early 1900s, with the arrival of streetcar lines, Columbia Heights had become one of the most popular neighborhoods in the District.

As the 20th Century progressed, the neighborhood became a beacon for writers, artists, actors and politicians. That tradition continues today with the Dance Institute of Washington and the adjacent Tivoli Theatre—built in 1924 and recently refurbished. Columbia Heights is also home to a number of embassies.

Things to Do in Columbia Heights

Meridian Hill Park is a one of the community’s popular attractions—a historic structured urban park with cascading waterfalls and sculpture gardens. Retail truly runs the gamut, from the DC USA Mall with its nationally branded stores to funky indie shops. Plus, there’s all sorts of live entertainment from poetry and performance art at Bloombars to the GALA theatre company at Tivoli.

Bars and restaurants are also part of the appeal, running south along the 14th Avenue to the U Street Corridor. Just a small sampling includes Wonderland Ballroom, The Heights Tavern, Room 11, Red Rocks Pizzeria, Meridian Pint, Maple, The Couple, Gloria’s and so many more.

Residents can use either the Columbia Heights Metro or the U Street Metro. To learn more about condos for sale in Columbia Heights, call District Partners at Compass at (202) 400-3070.
