Muse in Old Town
Slated for a 2021 delivery, the new Muse condominium project in Alexandria’s Old Town North has been described by its developers as Artful Living. There’s more to the slogan than typical marketing jargon, as its location is in the city’s Arts Corridor. With 73 luxury condos for sale scheduled to deliver by the end of the year, the development is being shepherded by Carr Companies, with exteriors by SK&I Architecture based in Bethesda, and interior design from ADG of Alexandria. What are some good reasons for prospective buyers to scope Muse out? Let’s dig a little deeper.
An Appealing Exterior
It’s hard to argue the visual appeal of Muse, with cubist brick structures backed by a taller glass and steel building. Old Town Alexandria prides itself on its tradition and history. As a result, the local planning commission holds developers to rigorous standards when it comes to any new construction. SK&I Architecture passed the test with flying colors, melding Alexandria’s familiar boxy brick themes with more modern elements. The end result is highly pleasing to the eye. An added bonus is the positioning of balconies so that they face east toward the Potomac River.
Luxury Floorplans and More
Living options are quite varied, with two-story lofts in the one of the front buildings and chic flats for sale in the tower. Models are priced from the $800s to around $2.2 million, with floorplans climbing from 920 to 2,800 square feet of space. Tower layouts start with one bedroom plus den and two full baths, increasing in size to two bedrooms plus den and 2.5 baths. Interiors are bright and open with giant windows looking out on Old Town. Many units also have private balconies or terraces, offering views of the river. Wide-plank engineered hardwood floors, luxurious spa baths and Italian gourmet kitchens with Thermador and Bosch appliances add to the interior appeal.

Muse offers lots of bells and whistles to accompany the luxury apartments and lofts for sale, such as the rooftop clubroom with its expansive waterfront views. A connection between the arts community and residents is a deliberate focus, with the Muse developers partnering with The Art League in order to bring creativity to the front door. An outdoor “Arts Walk” is a key component, featuring a landscaped open space with display areas, seating and lighting. The two brick buildings in front with their distinctive facades are joined by an enclosed bridge above the Arts Walk. While the larger of the two front buildings is dedicated to loft space, the smaller is described as a “jewel box,” serving as welcoming the local arts community with The Art League occupying the first floor. Additionally, the new Metro Stage Theatre is right next-door!
Location, Location, Location
Muse is located at 1201 N. Royal Street in Alexandria. The local neighborhood is the Old Town North Arts District, an area that has increasingly emerged as a trendy and vibrant place to live, work and play. The Potomac River and Tide Lock Park are steps away, with bakeries, coffeehouses and restaurants all within walking distance. You can gather groceries at the nearby Trader Joes, Harris and Teeters, and Slaters markets. There’s also a great local farmers market for foodies. Del Ray with its fabulous indie shops and eateries is a few blocks west, and you’ll also be next-door to the rest of Old Town Alexandria and all it has to offer!
