The Eastern Market Metro Station is named after the nearby Eastern Market, a sprawling food and crafts venue that first opened in 1873. The neighborhood itself dates back even further, to the establishment of the federal government in Washington, DC. Construction on the U.S. Capitol building began in 1793. The magnificent structure was set ablaze by British troops during the War of 1812 and subsequently rebuilt.
Today, Capitol Hill is one of the most populated neighborhood in the District. Residents enjoy no shortage of amenities, with popular bars, restaurants, shops and other attractions.
