Additional Info About Condos For Sale at Car Barn l in DC
This striking Romanesque Revival complex with its fortress-like brick appearance was originally designed by Waddy Butler Wood for the Metropolitan Railroad Company and completed in 1896. Its purpose was two-fold—as storage houses for electric streetcars, with administrative offices on the upper floors. The buildings transitioned to bus storage in 1961, and were transformed into luxury condos for sale in 2005.
The Car Barn condos received a lot of attention at the time of their redevelopment—an extensive renovation and restoration process was necessary. But the end result was worth it, resulting in beautiful city homes with either bamboo or oak floors, large windows, wood-burning fireplaces and modern open kitchens with warm wood cabinets, granite countertops and stainless steel appliances.
There is a wide variety of one and two-bedroom floorplans, with both flats and townhouse-style layouts. Condos for sale here generally run from the $300s to low $600s. This gated complex has signature turreted towers at the corners, with a labyrinth of wings and sections that re connected by brick walkways winding through landscaped areas. There’s also a swimming pool.
The Car Barn is in Capitol Hill East’s 20002 zip code, and near to Lincoln Park. Also in the neighborhood is RFK Stadium—home to DC United Soccer. The Stadium-Armory Metro is about six blocks away. Residents are also within walking distance of the Anacostia River. This is a part of DC that is rapidly transforming, especially along the waterfront where tons of new bars, restaurants, entertainment and condos for sale are springing up.
