Arlington VA New Construction Real Estate For Sale
Home buyers in Arlington, Virginia have plenty of historic properties to pick from, but many are opting for new construction instead. This isn’t really that new of a trend—the continually expanding population has proven the need for additional homes for sale.
That said, some neighborhoods are more prone to new construction than others. It’s really a matter of available land as well as rules governing permits that allow existing properties to be torn down and replaced.

Where Are New Homes Found in Arlington?
To a large degree, densely populated neighborhoods that are packed with historically protected structures are less apt to yield large numbers of new luxury homes for sale.
That said, developers and builders do manage to either rebuild, replace or substantially alter old homes in some of Arlington’s old urban corridors. Additionally, commercial structures are sometimes razed in order to build multiple single-family homes.
The larger amount of new construction, however, is taking place in upscale neighborhoods in North Arlington such as Broyhill Forest, Country Club Grove, Country Club Hills and Stratford Hills (just to name a few).
You’ll also find the hammers swinging much further south, in places like Virginia Highlands and Aurora Hills.
In some cases, this is due to less stringent permit processes when it comes to replacing homes built during the 1950s and 1960s. But it’s also a matter of money—there’s more of a market for new luxury homes in suburban neighborhoods that are already known for their affluence and desirability.
What Styles of New Construction Are Popular?
Given that new custom homes for sale are typically large and luxurious, architectural styles most often favor styles associated with opulence.
In other words, don’t expect new custom cottages. Instead, you’ll find variations on Colonial themes, plus French Country, Mediterranean, Arts & Crafts, Tudor and various Contemporary designs that can best be described as “big and fancy.”
There are also a fair number of Modern homes being built here and there—often designed by prominent DC area architects.
