Broyhill Forest Homes For Sale, Arlington, VA

Known for its gracious homes for sale, Broyhill Forest in North Arlington was a forerunner of the luxury planned community movement. It remains highly popular today, with a location that is emblematic of its tony appeal. The Gulf Branch Nature Center to the north, Bellevue Forest to the east, the Washington Golf and Country Club to the south and Country Club Hills to the east. In other words, lots of peace and quiet, as well as long, lush fairways
The community was the brainchild of Marvin T. Broyhill, Sr., one of the region’s most successful and prolific developers. Broyhill moved to the DC area in the late 1930s with a prescient goal to eventually capitalize on the post-World War II building boom. In 1946 his plan took a large step forward when he partnered with his sons. And so began M.T. Broyhill & Sons, a multifaceted company handling construction, rentals, insurance and marketing.

By the early 1950s, the Broyhills had gained a reputation as “the world’s largest builder of brick homes,” erecting their solid Colonials throughout the region. But it was after the patriarch’s construction of his own personal white manor near the golf course that he came up with the idea for his own master-planned neighborhood—right in his own backyard. And so began the first 150 homes in eight styles, representing “the utmost in refinement, in luxury and in value,” with initial price tags ranging from $19,000 to $27,000.

Real estate has certainly soared in value since then, just as Broyhill, Sr. predicted it would. The community has also grown in size, but still possesses the feel of an insulated enclave with trees, greenspace and gently rolling terrain, just across the Potomac River from Washington, DC and the Palisades neighborhood.
