Van Ness Real Estate, Washington DC
Up in the quiet reaches of Washington, DC is the pleasant suburban neighborhood of Van Ness. Like many parts of the city, boundaries can be amorphous, as can the names of respective communities. In this case, Van Ness is often referred to as Forest Hills and vice-versa, even though they are supposedly separate places. Once you snatch up one of these million-dollar homes for sale you can argue the point with your neighbors.
What kind of place is Van Ness? It’s a nice one, with gently rolling lawns and nearby parks and universities. People gather at well-mannered dinner parties or black-tie fundraisers and laugh politely when some congressman has a few too many martinis and puts a lampshade on his head. Actually, that doesn’t happen anymore. Nowadays, people just sit and stare at their smartphones. Van Ness Neighborhood Information
Van Ness was an agrarian community initially, as well as the site of Civil War encampments. It didn’t become widely developed until the early 1900s on, with homes for sale built in a variety of styles over the decades, including all manner of Colonial design, plus Tudor, Victorian, Mediterranean, Cape Cod, Craftsman and some interesting Contemporary styles that are hidden away in parkland along the eastern side. Unfortunately, active listings tend to be scarce. In addition to Forest Hills, other surrounding neighborhoods include Tenleytown, McLean Gardens and Cleveland Park.
