Tenleytown Real Estate, Washington DC
The real estate story in Tenleytown these days is that of a lot of Washington, DC neighborhoods—there just aren’t a lot of homes for sale. Maybe that will change at some point. It’s a lovely community through, located in the northwestern part of the District with quiet tree-lined streets and a wide variety of architectural styles.
Although borders can often seem amorphous in Washington Metro, real estate for sale in Tenleytown is generally assumed to be bordered by American University Park to the west, Friendship Heights to the north, Chevy Chase to the northeast, Forest Hills to the east and North Cleveland Park to the south.

Tenleytown Neighborhood Information
As for history, the neighborhood dates back to the 1700s and is home to Fort Reno Park—the highest elevated spot in the city and the site of Civil War action. It didn’t become widely developed however, until the 1920s on. Worth noting is the Sears Roebuck store on Wisconsin built in 1942—a stunning Streamline Moderne structure that is now part of Cityline at Tenley, offering both rentals and luxury condos for sale with ground floor retail.
More About the Tenleytown Real Estate Market
As previously mentioned, there’s not much of an active inventory at present for homes and condos for sale in Tenleytown, but prices generally start in the mid-six figures and rise well into seven figure territory. Wandering through various streets you’ll find an interesting blend of architecture including center-hall Colonials, Victorians, Tudors, Capes, Craftsman-style bungalow and semi-detached two-story row houses with generous front porches.
There are also old apartment buildings that have gone condo, as well as some new high-end developments in the works. And perhaps these new developments will add a little juice to the dearth of homes for sale. But it’s a cool neighborhood nonetheless, with a number of popular restaurants along Wisconsin Avenue, like Guapo’s, Masala Art, Cava Mezze Grill and La Noir Chat. There’s also a Whole Foods market.
