History of Logan Circle
During its early days, Logan Circle was known as Iowa Circle. It was home to the Camp Barker army barracks during the Civil War. Those barracks subsequently became a refuge for newly freed slaves.
The 19th century also saw the development of grand hotels and apartment buildings, along with row houses in Federal, Victorian, Gothic and Second Empire styles. But by the mid-20th century, Logan Circle was also becoming known for a slew of commercial businesses, including automotive repair and body shops along Church Street, nicknamed Auto Row.
Logan Circle Today
Today, those warehouses and body shops have been transformed into trendy upscale lofts and other intriguing condos for sale, including Lofts 14, Cooper Lewis, Citta 50 (a former coal factory) and Fennessey Lofts, which stemmed from an old livery stable.
There’s plenty of other condominium opportunities as well, from antique structures to new modern mixed-use developments.
Logan Circle also offers tons of neighborhood amenities. There’s the circle park itself—maintained by the National Parks Service and a great place to walk the dog or simply hang out. There’s also the nation’s top-selling Whole Foods location, Studio Theatre, furniture stores, art galleries, clothing boutiques, yoga studios, coffeehouses and some of the best restaurants in the city.
The list of eateries along the 14th Street corridor is staggering. Just a sampling would include Logan Tavern, Estadio, Pearl Dive Oyster Place, Commissary & Cork, Rice, Birch & Barley, Le Diplomate and many others.
Metro stations in the area include Dupont Circle, U Street, MacPherson Square and Mount Vernon Station. To learn more about Logan Circle luxury condos for sale, call District Partners at Compass, (202) 400-3070.
