Additional Information about the Area
Suitland was named for a massive estate built by Colonel Samuel Taylor Suit—a Maryland businessman and farmer—in the 1860s. The village was a rural vacation area for wealthy Washingtonians in those early years but didn’t become widely developed until the 20th century.
In 1941, the federal government purchased large portions of land for the Suitland Federal Center. The giant complex still houses numerous federal offices, mostly in typical office buildings. An antique Colonial Revival home still stands on the property, however, housing U.S. Census Bureau offices.
With a growing economy and new construction, Suitland continues its lengthy evolution. To learn more about competitively priced homes for sale near the Suitland Green Line, call District Partners at Compass, 202-798-3600.
