Landover, MD Homes For Sale
The community of Landover, Maryland is big on bargains when it comes to homes for sale. You’ll find it west of the Capital Beltway and bisected by Route 50 in Prince George’s County. Spread out over four square miles, it is also associated with the smaller Landover Hills subdivision which lies to the northeast. Both are part of surrounding Greater Landover.
This unincorporated village with a population of over 23,000, dates back to early plantation days. Much of the land originally belonged to the Wilson family, but as years passed, generations sold off the land. By 1930, what was left became the Wilson Farm—a successful dairy operation that lasted into the modern era. Eventually, the last vestiges of the family’s land became part of the Maryland Park system, with the reminder becoming FedEx Field—home of the Washington Redskins. More About the Landover Real Estate Market
In Landover Hills, homes for sale are exclusively single-family houses, built primarily between 1940 and 1970. In the Greater Landover area, you’ll find properties dating back further, with a longer period of development, lasting up to the mid-2000s. The end of the construction boom coincided with the real estate downturn that so adversely affected Prince George’s County.
So what does this all mean? In a nutshell, Landover, MD real estate prices are extremely competitive, starting around $100,000 and rarely exceeding $350,000. There’s also a lot of condos for sale, especially townhouses. Interestingly, condominiums only make up a small portion of properties overall, but there are a disproportionate number of anxious condo owners trying to unload their properties.
Landover offers plenty of retail, including the Landover Mall, plus the excitement of a major NFL stadium. There’s concerts, great parks and recreation, and two Metro stations, serving both the Orange and Blue lines. The community is also quite close to Washington, DC. Yet homes for sale are offered at rock-bottom prices, including a number of short sale opportunities.
So from small Ramblers to custom Colonials, along with lots of highly affordable townhouses, Landover, Maryland provides great possibilities for bargain hunters. That’s probably why list prices have climbed over 10 percent in the past year, and why single-family properties are getting scooped up so quickly.
