Glover Park Real Estate, Washington DC

Tucked into Glover Archbold Park in Washington, DC is a community that shares its name—Glover Park. Located north of Burleith and west of the Naval Observatory, this cozy enclave serves an eclectic bunch of residents and offers up some of the most affordable homes for sale in the District. As with so many of its neighboring communities, however, the inventory of active listings is slimmer than in years past. That’s just an undeniable part of shopping for real estate in the nation’s capital.

This neighborhood once belonged to the northern part of Georgetown and was mostly rural, known for farms and the butcher trade. It was also the site of a Union encampment during the Civil War. In 1911, the land was purchased by a banker named Charles C. Glover—hence the name. Its subsequent redevelopment occurred slowly, first with a smattering of single-family homes for sale, and then with a proliferation of row houses and apartment buildings.

Glover Park Neighborhood Information

Today, the real estate market in Glover Park is driven almost entirely by condos for sale—either row houses or apartment buildings that have gone through the conversion process. And while most of the properties where built prior to 1940, there are also a number of large International-style high-rises constructed during the 1950s. You won’t find much in the way of new construction here and that’s just fine with the locals.

Glover Park Real Estate at a Glance - Washington DC

Glover Park real estate for sale starts around $200,000 and top out in the high six-figures. The majority of current active listings are apartment-style condos for sale with the upper end of the market represented by row houses from two distinctly different eras of architecture—Victorians from the early 1900s and the more Federally-inspired porch-front residences built during the 1920s and 1930s, often with dormer windows at the top.

Perhaps the best thing about Glover Park is the tight-knit sense of community—residents from all walks of life spending time together at organized events in the park or the Saturday farmer’s market, or digging contentedly in the dirt at the highly coveted community gardens at the edge of the park. This is a highly walkable neighborhood with a number of cool bars and restaurants lining Wisconsin Avenue at the eastern border.
