Foggy Bottom Condos For Sale
One of the oldest and smallest communities in Washington, DC, Foggy Bottom is also often used as a nickname for the U.S. State Department. But while known for government offices, as well as George Washington University, the neighborhood also has some very high-end condos for sale, plus a host of conveniences and cultural gems.
The neighborhood is located immediately east of the White House, with the Potomac River running along its western border. The name Foggy Bottom refers to mists off the river that combined with industrial smoke back in the 19th century. Other neighbors include Georgetown and Downtown DC.

The Watergate Connection
One of the most notable developments in the neighborhood is the venerable Watergate complex—a series of modernist high-rise buildings designed by Luigi Moretti in the 1960s with shopping, offices, apartments and cooperatives boasting views of the glittering river.
But Watergate has a notorious political connection as well. It was the site of the infamous break-in of the Democratic National Committee offices in 1972, ultimately leading to the resignation of President Richard Nixon.
More about the Neighborhood
In addition to the State Department, there are numerous other government buildings in the neighborhood, including the Federal Reserve Board, White House executive offices and the Department of the Interior. There’s also numerous embassies as well as the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts where so many notable productions and events are staged.
Condos for sale in Foggy Bottom tilt toward mid-century buildings, International-style designs and other high-rise towers offering great Potomac views. There’s also a local Trader Joe’s, a Whole Foods, bars, restaurants, coffee shops and the Foggy Bottom-GWU Metro.
