Beltsville, MD Homes For Sale
Beltsville, Maryland is a town with a rich history, and a place where you can find amazing deals on custom homes for sale. How amazing? How about brand-new four bedroom construction with a cool retro-Victorian design for under $400,000? Home to nearly 17,000 residents, this intriguing community is located in Prince George's County, abutting the Montgomery County line.
Originally home to tobacco farmers and dating to 1649, things took a turn when iron ore was discovered in the early 1700s—a boom town was born! More changes arrived when Trueman Belt allowed the B&O Railroad to run tracks through his property in 1835. Belt was rewarded by having the town named after him. And in the 1890s, an electric streetcar line from Washington, DC arrived.
If that's not enough history, the US Department of Agriculture bought a huge old tobacco plantation in Beltsville in 1910 to house its main research facility. The Beltstville Agricultural Research Center (BARC) is still at its same location today, with its administrative offices in the original “Butterfly House” built in 1790. The research center is the largest and most prominent of its kind in the world. For more information about Beltsville, MD homes for sale, give us a call today!
