Ballston, VA Homes For Sale

To say homes for sale in Ballston, Virginia are trending upward would be understating the point. This is the epicenter for Arlington’s “work, live and play” environment—where all the great restaurants are, where the best shopping is and where uber-hip lofts, townhouses and other luxury condos for sale threaten to blot the sun from the sky. It’s getting crowded but it’s still super awesome.

Back in the 1700s this neighborhood was known as Ball’s Crossroads, named after the famed Balls of Virginia family—the ones who spawned George Washington. Even back then it was a busy place and it just kept growing as centuries passed. The early twentieth brought increased development with Victorian, Colonial and Sears Roebuck “Craftsman” homes for sale, as well as row houses, apartment and commercial buildings.

In 1951, the Parkington Shopping Center opened its doors, leading to a new era of retail growth. But eventually the area around the Glebe and Wilson crossroads began to deteriorate. Arlington County introduced the Ballston Sector Plan in 1980 and the centerpiece was the transformation of Parkington into Ballston Common with upscale shopping and nearby condos for sale. But that’s old news now—a major redevelopment will transform the mall once again, into Ballston Center—an exciting new mixed-use space with new shops and restaurants, improved street access and even upscale living. More About the Ballston Real Estate Market

Luxury townhome living has become quite popular in Arlington and you’ll find some of these multistory pads in Ballston as well, including Ballston Row and Ballston Green—new high-end residences with classic brick construction. As for detached single-family homes, you’ll usually find a few active listings, often Craftsman-style houses that have expanded upwards—lots tend to be postage stamp-sized.

The vast majority of properties however are condos for sale in tall buildings, often designed in a combination of modern and retro-chic. Prices start in the very low six figures and climb from there. It should be noted, however, that for all the luxury bells and whistles, condos in Ballston tend to be more affordable than in some of DC’s popular urban corridors. Plus, the number of nearby amenities is staggering, including a Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s and plenty of shops, restaurants and entertainment.
