Central Real Estate, Washington DC

If you’re browsing homes for sale in the neighborhood of Central in Washington, DC, common sense suggests that you’re not looking for the suburbs or outskirts of the city. As the name suggests, this real estate designation is indeed centrally located. It is not, however, just one neighborhood but a subdivision comprised of parts of several communities all lumped together.

Just think of it this way—Central is an area that radiates out from the White House and Downtown area, including Capitol Hill, Chinatown, Downtown, Gallery Place, Dupont Circle, Foggy Bottom, Shaw, Truxton Circle and West End.

Now that the boundaries have been cleared up, let’s move on to the type of homes for sale you might expect to find on the Central real estate market. This highly urbanized community is dominated by multifamily dwellings, many of which are of the high-rise variety. Plus, they tend to be on the expensive side. In other words, lots of upscale condos for sale.

Central (Washington DC) Neighborhood Information

Given the history associated with the heart of DC, you wouldn’t be wrong in assuming there are a number of historic homes for sale in the Central area. Indeed, you’ll find charming row houses and some grand old apartment buildings and hotels that have converted to condos over the years. But, an even larger portion of the Central real estate inventory comes from newer developments—this part of the District has seen a lot of construction in recent years and that has meant tearing down and building back up.

Central Real Estate at a Glance - Washington DC

In short, this amorphous area features condos for sale in a variety of old and new buildings. Included are a number of new mixed-use developments with ground floor retail and luxury pads up above with all the expected amenities—hardwood floors, floor-to-ceiling windows and chef’s kitchens. As for prices, condos for sale start around $200,000 for tiny apartment-style units and climb well into the millions. At the top end are some truly spectacular penthouse residences.

So if you want to roll out of bed, ignore your gleaming stainless steel kitchen in favor of the closest Starbucks and walk to work, this neighborhood is just your ticket. At night, the Verizon Center featuring NBA basketball with the Washington Wizards is just a stroll away. And after screaming yourself hoarse and guzzling overpriced beer, you can head home to your expensive cocoon and prepare for a five-hour rest cycle before you get up and start all over again. It’s the good life, in Central, DC.
