Brentwood Real Estate, Washington DC
Located in northeastern Washington, DC, the Brentwood neighborhood flies a little under the radar. It has transitioned gradually over the past several years as Brentwood real estate for sale has increased steadily in value. Yet it gets little publicity and certainly hasn’t seen the kind of overnight changes that typify DC’s more obvious urban success stories.
Other nearby neighborhoods include Bloomingdale, Edgewood, Eckington and Brookland.
One thing is apparent, however—the inventory of active listings has become smaller, especially when it comes to condos for sale. In particular, brick porch-front row houses that are so typical to the area have been snapped up as both investment opportunities and homes for first-time buyers in recent years. Interestingly, there has recently been an uptick in detached single-family homes for sale, including renovated Craftsman-style bungalows and post-World War II era cottages. Brentwood Neighborhood Information
Brentwood in Washington DC dates back to the early 1800s and a large estate built by Robert Brent, the first Mayor of Washington. The original mansion was lost in a fire a century later and a portion of the estate is now occupied by Gallaudet University—a school for the hearing impaired. Residential development ramped up from the 1920s onward with a notable spike in two-story row house construction in the 1930s and 1940s. The neighborhood is bordered by Rhode Island Avenue NE to the north, Montana Avenue to the east, New York Avenue to the south and Metro and Amtrak train tracks to the west.

Recent Development Around DC's Brentwood
One of the most notable recent changes in Brentwood has been the construction of Rhode Island Row—a large mixed-use development near the Brentwood Metro red line station, featuring a retro brick row house design with ground floor restaurants and retail and upscale residences above. The development is proof that this affordable neighborhood is evolving, even if the progress sometimes seems slow.
