Penn Quarter Real Estate, Washington DC

Directly between the White House and Capitol Hill is a revitalized historic district known as the Penn Quarter. Also referred to as Old Downtown, this is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Washington, DC and is known for great restaurants and nightlife, shops and galleries, and highly desirable condos for sale. After all, politicos can roll out of bed and literally walk two blocks to work.

Penn Quarter has changed over the years. Many of the old buildings along Pennsylvania Avenue have been torn down in the name of progress, replaced by new construction and modern behemoths. That’s not to say there aren’t any antiques left—just that there’s also a lot of glass and steel. But who’s complaining with all the amenities to enjoy in these upscale condos for sale—maple floors and soaring ceilings, circular staircases, stainless steel kitchens and balconies with amazing views.

Penn Quarter Neighborhood Information

This centrally located DC neighborhood is bordered by Chinatown to the north, Judiciary Square to the east, the National Mall to the south and that place where the President works to the west. Actually, you do have to cross 14th and 15th Streets first in order to get to the White House but let’s not quibble.

More About the Penn Quarter Real Estate Market

In terms of Penn Quarter real estate for sale, there aren’t any single-family homes for sale in the area—it’s all multifamily dwellings ranging from majestic old Federal-style structures to contemporary gleaming towers. Prices generally start around $350,000 for small units and climb well up into seven figures for large loft penthouses with all the trimmings. Mixed-use construction has also been on the rise, adding to the convenience for residents who want to take the elevator down to ground-floor retail or morning Grande espressos.

What's Around the Penn Quarter Neighborhood?

Also right in the neighborhood is the Verizon Center, home to the NBA’s Washington Wizards as well as a popular concert attraction. There’s also world class theatres like the Shakespearian and the Wooly Mammoth, as well as the historic Ford Theatre where President Lincoln was shot (and still featuring live performances all these years later). You can add movies at the Regal Gallery Place 14, a plethora of world famous museums and too many top bars and restaurants to mention.
