Lanham, MD Homes For Sale

With a wide variety of homes for sale at competitive prices, Lanham is a scenic bedroom suburb in Maryland with lots to offer. Measuring 3.5 square miles, it is often associated with Seabrook which lies to the north. It definitely has its own sense of history, however, as well as plenty of community spirit.

Lanham dates back to colonial plantation days, and is named for Trueman and Mary Ellen Lanham who built a beautiful Georgian mansion on a giant estate during the early 1800s. Much later in life, the widow Lanham deeded a large expanse of her property to the Baltimore and Potomac Railroad. For years thereafter, the town was known as Lanham Station.

Some of the historic old properties still stand—an example being the Bagelmann House, built in 1918—but the major residential boom didn’t occur until 1960s forward. The largest portion of the real estate market is made up of single-family homes ranging from the low-to-mid six figure range. Architectural types include Colonial, Cape Cod, Rambler and all sorts of variations on that 1960s staple—the Split-level. For more information about Lanham, MD homes for sale, give us a call today!

More About the Lanham, MD Real Estate Market

The top tier of homes for sale in Lanham is represented by the custom-built niche. Starting around the $400,000 mark and most typically topping out around $650,000, these multi-bedroom affairs are priced considerably lower than certain other Washington Metro neighborhoods. The reason is simple. Similar to other parts of Prince George’s County, the real estate downturn that began around 2007, happened in the middle of a construction boom. Hence, an extended buyers’ market.

You can also find condos for sale in Lanham, MD, starting around $100,000. At the upper end are recently built three-story luxury townhouses with a retro row house appeal, listing around $300,000.

With appealing greenspace, such as Lanham Forest Community Park, and a highly popular farmers market, Lanham is a close-knit community of about 10,000 residents. Local amenities also include restaurants, coffee shops and other retailers. As for those who commute to work, there’s the bordering Capital Beltway and a Metro station in neighboring New Carrollton.
