Lamont Lofts For Sale

701 Lamont St NW, Washington D.C.

How does a former laundry plant in Washington, DC, become luxury condos for sale? Read on, and discover the story of the Lamont Street Lofts in the Columbia Heights neighborhood. In 1950, a five-story building was constructed at 701 Lamont Street NW as the Acadia Sunshine Company laundry plant. But after years of laundering clothes, the industrial building fell into abandonment and neglect. Sad days indeed.

But in the mid-2000s, the Neighborhood Development Company (NDC) together with Bonsta Haresign Architects came up with a bold new plan of action. This vaguely Art Moderne structure could be transformed into a stunning upscale residential development with 38 one and two-bedroom condos for sale. Said residences would be designed in true loft style with minimalist flare including soaring ceilings, and exposed ductwork, beams, columns and brick. The project was completed in 2005 and was awarded the 2007 Residential Architect Design Award.

Additional Info About Lamont Lofts in DC

The Lamont Street Lofts are inside the original annex building which adjoins a squat one-story structure with steam stack, where the actual cleaning of clothes took place. The yellow brick facade of the annex is now embellished with metal-framed glass bays, and balconies with corrugated metal walls.

Inside are some of the coolest factory-chic lofts outside of New York City, with floor choices of raw concrete, tile and warm hardwoods. The modern gourmet kitchens are absolutely open without even breakfast bars to divide them from the main living spaces. Additionally, there are rooftop penthouses with private terraces, creating additional dimensions to the otherwise flat roof.

Condos for sale at the Lamont Street Lofts typically start in the $400s and climb from there. Residents also enjoy a fitness center, extra storage and underground parking. The building is in the northeastern corner of Columbia Heights, adjacent the neighborhoods of Park View, Pleasant Plains and Petworth. There are tons of nearby restaurants, including the Coupe, Room 11, Wonderland Ballroom, Meridian Pint, Kangaroo Boxing Club and many more. Also, the Georgia Avenue Metro is within walking distance.
