Glen Echo, MD Homes For Sale

First, this is one of the coolest names for a town, ever. Second, it’s a teeny-tiny place—just a tenth of a square mile with about 225 residents. Whoo-hoo! But this intimate enclave in Maryland’s Montgomery County has some very tasty homes for sale, from Craftsman cottages to modernistic million dollar pads overlooking the Potomac River.

This was once farmland, dating back to the mid-1800s. It was chartered in 1904 and is also well known for its eponymously named amusement park which opened in 1891 and remained in operation until 1968. The park featured a pony track, carousel, a Spanish ballroom and a “railway ride through a waterfall.” Known for its iconic Art Deco design, the park is now a popular arts and cultural center, managed in partnership with the National Park Service.

But that’s not all this little town has to offer. Hugging the river’s coastline, about half of the community is occupied by Cabin John Creek, the C&O Canal National Historic Park, and of course, the Glen Echo Park itself. Contact us today for more information about Glen Echo, MD homes for sale!

More About the Glen Echo Real Estate Market

What could possibly be left in this postage stamp-sized piece of land? A handful of peaceful tree-lined streets with green space on three sides, and MacArthur Blvd, aka “the Main Drag,” providing the eastern border.

And then there's Glen Echo homes and real estate—no condos for sale here, just wonderful diverse single-family houses, built over a number of years. You’ve got Colonials, amazing gingerbread Victorians with intricate latticework, Dutch houses with Gambrel roofs, original Sears Roebuck “Craftsman” cottages, some angular contemporary designs from the 1950s and even some post-and-beam homes.
Summing up—awesome

Unfortunately, with only about 95 properties in town, the Glen Echo real estate market does not present a robust inventory of homes for sale. It’s not exactly Gaithersburg or Silver Spring. That said, there usually are a handful of active listings to peruse, with prices starting in the high six figures and escalating to well over a million dollars.

Glen Echo lies just a couple miles north of the Washington, DC border. As for local nightlife—there’s the ever popular Irish Inn at Glen Echo Restaurant, set inside an old historic house. Here you can lift a stout pint of ale and enjoy a wonderfully varied menu. And afterward, go blues dancing at Glen Echo Park!
