Fair Lakes, VA Homes For Sale

Most Washington Metro neighborhoods boast some sort of historical perspective. Not Fair Lakes, Virginia; a contemporary master-planned community that rose from the ashes of undeveloped land during the 1980s. Wait—no colonial settlers, no history lessons and no cool old Victorian homes for sale? This is madness! Surely there must have at least been a Civil War battle nearby?

Look, if you want to believe George Washington rode his horse by these parts a couple hundred years ago and stopped to survey the land, we won’t stop you. But the simpler truth is that a developer named Milton Peterson got a good deal on some unused land at the intersection of I-66, Route 50 and Fairfax County Parkway, and decided to build himself a community.

Before Peterson bought the land it was just nothingness with cars rushing by. And before that it was farmland with some grazing cows. But now, it’s an awesome mixed-use suburban development with upscale condos for sale, townhouses, single-family homes, apartments, restaurants and stores—all surrounded by natural splendor where the cows once roamed. More About the Fair Lakes Real Estate Market

So what are the prices like for this modern suburb with no history? Single-family homes for sale start around $500,000 and climb into million dollar territory, while condos for sale start in the $200s for one-bedroom apartment style units and escalate into the mid-six figures for upscale townhouses.

Located in northwest Fairfax County, this modern “live, work and play” community is home to about 8,000 residents currently and continues to expand. And yet, despite the forward-thinking approach, this residential and commercial development still has a sense of country charm with winding back roads and seven miles of hiking trails.

Detached single-family homes for sale in Fair Lakes tilt toward Colonial archetypes, some with columns and some without, with either brick or clapboard exteriors. The largest portion of properties, however, are condos for sale—especially townhouses. These are usually two or three-story residences, often with ground-level private parking garages.

You’ll also find plenty of local conveniences, including a Whole Foods, Starbucks, Home Depot and a host of restaurants, including Cantina D’Italia and Blue Iguana. You can also add fast food options like Chik-Fil-A and Chipotle. And if that’s not enough, there are upscale retailers, private schools, public swimming pools, basketball, tennis and volleyball courts.
