Crystal City, VA Homes For Sale

Describing a neighborhood as “unique” is an overused characterization. But in the case of Crystal City, Virginia, the term is truly fitting. A major portion of this community actually exists beneath the earth’s surface. Sounds like something out of a science fiction story, doesn’t it? The story wouldn’t be complete, of course, without mentioning the city’s homes for sale—after all, this is a real estate article.

This part of Arlington was once rife with industrial decay—a bunch of rotting old commercial structures adjacent Ronald Reagan International Airport and the Potomac River. During the early 1960s, developers built a modern office tower and named their glittering creation Crystal House. Over time they built more towers and added interconnecting subterranean passageway. They were so intrigued by the process that they went ahead and created a vast underground shopping village with a retro style. More About the Crystal City Real Estate Market

Today, the experiment has evolved into a modern “life, work and play” environment with luxury condos for scale, office space, restaurants and a great retail experience called Crystal City. Unique? You bet it is! And it is super popular, especially with those who work at the Pentagon next door or at any number of nearby government agencies. Also, the Crystal City Streetcar project will soon connect this awesome neighborhood to Pentagon City, Potomac Yard and the Columbia Pike.

But what about the homes for sale—what are they like and how much do they cost? While you won’t find detached single-family houses within the development itself, there are a few around the periphery of the neighborhood, in the same 22202 zip code. Primarily, however, the residential real estate selection is made up of condos for sale in modern glass and steel towers. These tend to be luxury units with all the bells and whistles, and range in price from around $300,000 to nearly $3 million for swanky penthouses with amazing views.

As a self-sustaining bubble community with around 17,000 residents and 55,000 jobs, Crystal City continues to evolve. From the original underground mall to a new connecting corridor to Pentagon City, this exciting urban infill community will soon include new mixed-use developments with upscale condos for sale and ground floor retail. The city expects housing for an additional 8.500 residents by 2040.
