Cameron Mills, VA Homes For Sale
Tucked up into the northern portion of Alexandria, Virginia is the subdivision of Cameron Mills. With its pleasantly upscale single-family homes for sale, the neighborhood is commonly associated with Cameron Mills Road which runs through its epicenter. It should not be conflated, however, with the similarly named Cameron Station which is to the southwestern part of the city.
Early colonial history inspired the neighborhood’s name. During the late 1700s, a large mill named Cameron Mill was built in the area. This was just one of several mills built along Alexandria waterways such as Cameron Run, Taylor’s Dun and Timber Branch. Further to the south of the actual Cameron Mill was Cameron Mills Farm.

Now that all the old stories are dispensed with, we can move on to residential development. While there are still some 19th century including Victorian-style farmhouses, construction really hit its stride beginning in the 1930 with Colonial Revival and vintage Craftsman style cottages and bungalows. The 1940s brought the introduction of Cape Cod styles, while the post-World War II period brought mid-century contemporary designs. Hybrid Cape and Rambler homes with brick and clapboard exteriors are also in evidence.
The majority of construction in Cameron Mills was done by the 1960s but there has also been a more recent trend of add-ons and even some teardowns and rebuilds. Single-family home prices range from the md-six figures to over a million dollars. There is also a sprinkling of condos and townhouses at the western edges of the neighborhood.
Cameron Mills’ neighborhoods include Warwick Village with its mid-century brick townhouses to the immediate east, Del Ray to the southeast, North Ridge to the south, and the Fairlington to the west (on the other side of the Arlington border).
Residents of Cameron Mills have plenty of nearby options when it comes to shopping, dining and leisure activities. The Village at Shirlington (aka Arlington’s Arts & Entertainment District) is minutes away, as are the funky indie businesses along Mount Vernon Avenue in Del Ray, and all the high-end mall retailers in Pentagon City. And don’t forget Old Town Alexandria with its fine restaurants and Washington DC with more attractions than can be succinctly summarized!
Of course, one needs to get to these places in order to enjoy them. No worries—the Braddock Road and King Street Metro stations are just a short drive away, and the new Potomac Yard Metro is scheduled to open in 2020. Commuters who prefer driving to mass transit can also zip right up the road to the I-395. To learn more about homes for sale in Cameron Mills, call District Partners at Compass, (202) 798-3600.
