A century later, developers took notice of all the open land and began popping out custom homes for sale. That boom collided with the real estate downturn of the mid-2000s and home values began to tumble. The situation in Brandywine is similar to that of Boyds and other upscale Maryland suburbs. The rebound is  now in place but the town is still a buyer's dream. Amazingly, home builders are still swinging their hammers, providing luxurious new homes at at very low prices.
 
There are a few townhouse condos for sale in Brandywine but they're not the main focus. Brandywine single-family homes for sale start off in the low $100s for short sales and foreclosures, climbing gradually for even more bank bargains. These include Ramblers, Split-levels and boxy Colonials. And while prices climb to about $850,000 for huge estates, you'll find a wealth of possibilities in the $400s and $500s for new or recently built four and five-bedroom custom homes for sale.
 
This appealing community borders the Patuxent River to the east and stretches nearly all the way to the Potomac River to the west. With the recent construction of the Brandywine Crossing Shopping Center, along with restaurants, supermarkets, movies and more, this is a town is a bargain hunter's dream.
