Wheaton, MD Homes For Sale
Homes for sale in Maryland’s affluent Montgomery County tend to be among the more expensive in the state. The large, spread-out community of Wheaton, however, offers a large and competitively priced inventory. Often associated with Silver Spring, and sometimes referred to as Wheaton-Glenmont, this large suburb does actually have its own identity, with residential neighborhoods and a downtown urban center.
During the mid-1700s, the community was called Mitchell’s Crossroads—named for a tavern at the junction of three roads, now known as Veirs Mill, Georgia Avenue and University Blvd. The area continued to develop as a business district, changing its name to Leesborough, and finally to Wheaton, in homage to a Civil War soldier. Back then, the quaint junction was home to general stores, liveries, and the like. These days, the same crossroads center is a hip urban hub with great restaurants, retail and new mixed-use condos for sale.
