Westlight Condos for Sale in West End

Located at 1111 24th Street NW, Washington, DC 20037

Washington, DC’s West End neighborhood has been going through a lot of changes as of late. That includes a brand-new upscale residential building known as Westlight. Located at 1111 24th Street NW, the 10-story complex was delivered in 2016 with 71 condominium units. Westlight is the centerpiece of the modernist structure, with a new public library, ground floor retail and an East Tower that is home to 93 high-end apartment rentals.

The project with its stunning glass and steel exterior was developed by EastBanc and designed by Enrique Norton of the trendy TEN-Arquitectos. This is without a doubt one of the most abstract and adventurous buildings in DC with sections jutting out at all angles. One, two and three-bedroom condos for sale range in size from 600 to 3,000 square feet with 49 uniquely different floorplans. Recent list prices have been between $625,000 and $4.5 million.

Current Listings for Westlight

Step inside one of these highly modern homes and you’ll be treated to giant window walls allowing abundant sunlight to bathe the wide-plank natural oak floors. And, when you want a little shade, just adjust the Hunter Douglas custom louvered shades!

The open living space is one with Euro-style gourmet kitchens. That means stainless steel appliances recessed cleverly into the walls, with Italian high-gloss cabinets and quartzite counters. If that’s not enough, check out the spa baths with Waterworks fixtures, Toto toilets, Italian high-gloss cabinets, elongated vanities, and frameless showers with teak floors.

Residents at Westlight also enjoy a host of shared amenities, including a 24/7 staffed front lobby featuring a literal 50-foot green wall made from living plants! There’s also an amazing lighting sculpture from noted artist Ingo Maurer. But we’re just getting started, because there’s also underground parking, bicycle storage, a dog-washing station, private clubroom with catering kitchen and outdoor terrace, business center, a state-of-the-art fitness facility, a sundeck with landscaping and gas grills, and a 25-meter heated rooftop pool.

The West End neighborhood is also pretty great, with Dupont Circle to the northeast, Foggy Bottom to the south and Georgetown to the west. There’s bars and restaurants all around, such as Ris Bistro, Bayou and Marcel’s by Robert Wiedmaier. Groceries can be had at Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods and transit at the Foggy Bottom-GWU Metro. And, when you’re hankering for a special Black Tie event, head over to the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

More About the West End

The West End community dates back to the original founding of Washington, DC. Back then, the city was significantly smaller than it is now. The West End got its name due to its positioning as the westernmost neighborhood in the District. Although neighboring Georgetown predated Washington, DC, it remained its own municipality until 1871 and didn’t rename its streets to correspond with Washington’s until 1895. The West End went through many changes, including its own boundaries, over time. It once extended south of Pennsylvania Avenue as well as east of 23rd Street. The Old West End Historic District, home to George Washington University, is deep into neighboring Foggy Bottom.

The 20th century brought a continuing evolvement, with an emphasis on commercial development including office buildings and warehouses. But during the early 1970s, Washington’s city planners created a report entitled “New Town for the West End.” The idea was to lessen the focus on commercial usage and rebrand the neighborhood as a great place to live. The location was ripe for residential development given its close proximity to the city’s political halls of power as well as popular bordering neighborhoods like Dupont Circle and Georgetown. But the city was also going through hard times after considerable civil unrest, the exodus of many residents and general urban decline.

Slowly but surely, West End began to change and revitalize. Today, it is one of the most popular communities in Washington, with top restaurants, shops and luxury condos for sale, such as the historic Columbia, the posh Ritz-Carlton West End and of course, the Westlight with its ground floor retail and the new West End Library. There’s also the nearby Landmark West End Cinema, scads of gyms and yoga studios, art galleries and the every expanding list of bars and restaurants. Those include the ones mentioned above—Ris, Bayou and Marcel’s by Robert Wiedmaier—as well as Baked & Wired, Quadrant Bar & Lounge, Blue Duck Tavern, Marshall’s Bar & Grille, Café Deluxe, Rasika West End and Boveda - A Latin Speakeasy Restaurant, just to name a few.

The West End neighborhood is also extremely walk-friendly—one of the key goals of the Office of Planning. You can’t get much better than a Walk Score of 98! This is truly a stroller’s paradise. Peddle power is also big here, with a Bike Score of 94. One of Washington’s oldest neighborhoods is now one of its most modern: Westlight with its stunning staggered design is certainly proof of that. But there’s also still a sense of history with notable classic architecture
