West End, Alexandria VA Homes For Sale
Out in the western portion of the City of Alexandria is an area known as—wait for it—the West End! This isn’t a neighborhood per se, but rather a collection of communities including Seminary Hill, Cameron Station, Varsity Park and Landmark/Van Dorn. Not surprisingly, this is a fertile real estate marketplace with a range of property types, including single-family houses, townhouses and condos for sale.
The West End lies in a part of Alexandria that is up against two other borders—Arlington and Fairfax County. It also includes land that was annexed from Fairfax back in 1952. With the Capital Beltway and I-395 curving around two sides as well as the nearby Van Dorn Metro Station, this suburban area offers lots of commuter convenience.

There’s plenty of history in the West End. Fort Hunt occupied the highest point of Alexandria during the Civil War, serving as part of a ring of strategic Union Army installation protecting Washington DC. Today it’s a popular park and museum with well-preserved cannons and other artifacts. Also, Cameron Station was once a 165-acre Army base housing the Defense Logistics Agency. But after it closed down, developers turned into an upscale residential community with townhouses, condos, single-family homes, a clubhouse, swimming pool, parks and more.
Varsity Park is a small residential enclave and Landmark/Van Dorn is a sizeable area occupied by homes for sale, a Metro rail station and the Landmark Mall which is going through a major redevelopment phase with plans for a new town center, urban parks, retail, dining and high-end residences. Also in the West End is the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra, the Port City Brewing Company with its great craft beers, lots of fun restaurants, the Winkler Botanical Preserve, Ben Brenman Park, Holmes Run Park and the West End Farmers Market.
As mentioned above, the real estate market is all over the map here, from old historical single-family homes to gleaming high-rise towers and everything in-between. Prices start in the low six figures and climb to over a million dollars. Yes, West End has just about everything from barbeque and country music to the Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center (home to the symphony). And to top things off, Old Town Alexandria is right next-door! Contact District Partners at Compass to learn more, (202) 798-3600.
