West End Real Estate, Washington DC
Like many parts of Washington, DC, the West End neighborhood continues to evolve. It is also a place with a nice selection of posh condos for sale. And we like our cocoons of luxury with their hardwood floors, open floor plans and deluxe stainless steel kitchens. This may be one of the oldest parts of the city but it also features some of the newest towering glass and steel structures. West End is as the name describes—located in the District’s western part, co-mingling with Foggy Bottom and the outer fringes of Georgetown. You can still find some large antique apartment buildings that have converted to condos for sale, but most of the Victorian row houses that once typified the area have long since been razed.
The simplest reason has to do with the riots of 1968 that ushered in blight and decay. While this tends to be repeated endlessly in DC chronicles, it is an inescapable fact. The West End poses a bit of a twist, however. In 1972, the District’s Office of Planning and Management decided to create a “new in-town community.” Down came the row houses and up went a bunch of International-style high-rises. More recently a whole new hotbed of construction has come into being—soon the nice selection of West End condos for sale will become even nicer.

More About Real Estate in the West End Neighborhood
You won’t find any detached single-family homes for sale in West End—sorry but space is too precious to be cluttered up by silly old historic mansions. This neighborhood is about more tall towers and more condos for sale! As for prices, they start around $250,000 for very small units and climb all the way to $4.85 million for a swanky three-bedroom penthouse pad with a curved staircase and private elevator.
West End Development & More - Washington DC
One of the smashing new construction projects is the redevelopment of the West End Library into a place that not only has books but also includes condos for sale—they’re apparently making the book section all new and modern and somehow attaching tower buildings to house upscale residences.
