Warwick Village, VA Homes For Sale

One of the more unique subdivisions in Alexandria is Warwick Village, located in the northern part of the city. Here you’ll find 625 Colonial Revival-style brick townhouses spread out along 12 hilly streets. Primarily built during the 1950s, these mid-century semi-detached single-family and duplex homes were originally apartment rentals but later converted to townhouse condos for sale.

Situated next-door to Del Ray, this interesting community affords some of the best real estate deals in pricy Alexandria. The boxy two-story buildings have full basements and exist on 55 acres that were once part of the historic Warwick Estate. There are also some traditional detached single-family homes for sale around the outer edges of the neighborhood.

Warwick Village Homes for Sale in Alexandria, VA

The Warwick Estate was the country home of a former confederate officer, Frank Hume, who made his fortune as a Washington, DC businessman and grocer. This guy also bottle and sold his own whisky! Hume built his own grand mansion and threw parties for high society folks. He was also a noted philanthropist. But 50 years after Hume’s death, the mansion was torn down and Warwick Village was built.

These affordable dwellings typically measure around 1,102 square feet each with some variations, with three bedrooms and 1.5 baths. One of the construction quirks—the absence of load-bearing walls—has allowed new owners to open up the downstairs living spaces. The buildings were initially converted to condos for sale in 1970 but many have undergone further updates and renovations in the ensuing years.

Neighboring communities (in addition to Del Ray) include Lynhaven, Beverley Hills, Arlandria and Rosemont. There’s plenty of nearby shopping and restaurants, from the funky indie businesses along Mount Vernon Avenue to the more upscale environs of Old Town. There’s also the fantastic Four Mile Run Farmers Market as well as an active local citizens association and the popular Warwick Pool.

These intriguing townhouses have recently listed in mid-six figure range, with older single-family homes including Craftsman-styles climbing much higher. Yes, Warwick Village offers a relatively affordable option for eager buyers, but rapidly spiking prices make even that a bit of a questionable statement.
