Silver Spring, MD Homes For Sale
With great homes for sale and countless amenities, Silver Spring is a suburban utopia. If that seems like a convenient statement, consider this—the city was chronicled by PBS for a story on the quintessential suburban experience in “Silver Spring, Story of an American Suburb.” Yet, this isn’t a prototypical inland empire of cookie cutter homes and postage stamp lawns. Indeed, it is much more—a vibrant and diverse community combining a large urban downtown environment with numerous attractive neighborhoods, each with their own characteristics.
Like so much of Washington Metro, Silver Spring has a historical backstory, dating all the way back to early colonial settlers and named for a local spring with mica in the water—giving the appearance of glittering silver. The arrival of the B&O Railroad in the 1870s led to a further residential expansion when an enterprising land developer purchased a massive farm and divided it into five and 10-acre lots, along with homes for sale. Some of these grand old properties still exist—Colonials and Victorians, some of which include private stables with plenty of land to ride on.
