Reston, VA Homes For Sale

Acclaimed as s highly successful pioneer of the New Town movement, Reston, Virginia is home to nearly 60,000 residents. Founded in 1961, this vibrant city also boast a large and varied inventory of homes for sale. Located in the northwestern part of Fairfax County, the community continues to grow and evolve and will soon welcome its first Metro stop on the Silver Line.

This master planned development was the brainchild of New York businessman Robert E. Simon, Jr, who purchased 6.750 acres of rural land, and then figured out what to do with it. Simon, who turned 100 years old in April, 2014, sat down with a yellow pad and worked out “everything I could think of that I’d seen in the world that appealed to me.” That included five separate self-sustaining villages, each with its own town center, surrounding the Lake Anne Plaza. Each village presented its own unique architectural influences, from Mediterranean to modern urbanism. More About the Reston Real Estate Market

Homes for sale in Reston reflect the differences of its parts—everything from giant custom mansions to small, affordable condos for sale. Simon added an additional 750 acres over time and development continues with an ambitious remaking of the largest and central town center which will soon offer new upscale condos and townhouses for sale, including mixed-use structures with ground floor retail. Included in the redevelopment are plans for restaurants, a grocery store and even an large amphitheater for movies and live performances.

Condos for sale in Reston start in the low six figures for small apartment-style flats in 1980s International-style buildings, and climb to over a million dollars for penthouse units in modern glass and steel towers. There are also lots of luxury multistory townhouses. As for detached single-family homes for sale, you can choose from an equally wide range, from cute little cottages to a giant European-style villa for $3 million.

Reston has always placed a premium on natural space with wildlife habitats, parks and recreation, and boating on the lake. The Town Center offers a cinema and popular businesses like an Apple Store, Williams-Sonoma and upscale restaurants such as Morton’s and McCormick & Schmick. And to think that this original town centerpiece is now being further developed and improved? More than 50 years after its founder put pencil to paper, Reston continues to be a model of innovative planning.
