Potomac Yard, VA Homes For Sale
One of the most ambitious commercial developments in Washington Metro, if not the nation itself, is Potomac Yard. It’s also a place where you’ll find some awesome homes for sale. To look at this project in the most basic of terms; somebody took a historic railroad switching yard and turned it into an upscale urban “live, work and play” village within the independent City of Alexandria. But that’s not telling the whole story.
Once upon a time, this was a tobacco plantation, circa the 1700s. And after that it was one of the busiest rail yards in the country. But it eventually went silent, and the rails and equipment and diesel fuel turned to rust and industrial pollution.
Decades later, developers seized on the idea of turning the old Alexandria, Virginia rail yard into something more, but the process continued to sputter and stall, with signs of progress here and there including some stores and movie theaters. Finally, in 2013, residential construction began in earnest. Homes for sale will continue to be built until 2016 and perhaps beyond. Plus lots more stores and restaurants, parks and recreation, nightlife and even a Metro rail system. To learn more about Potomac Yard, VA homes for sale, give us a call today!

More About the Potomac Yard Real Estate Market
One of the signature aspects of this massive project was the decision to use a number of different developers who are responsible for their own sections of this city within a city—offering upscale condos and townhouses for sale in uniquely different styles, while retraining a common thread of traditional architecture such as Federal and Victorian, that blends into more modern norms? How so? You may have four-story row house townhomes next to modernist glass and steel designs.
Condos for sale will start around $600,000 and climb to around $1.5 million for townhomes with every luxury amenity possible. How about window walls and terraces, stainless steel chefs’ kitchens and open great room concepts? And when you exit your new residence you’ll find community conveniences like Harris Teeter and Giant supermarkets, red-hot restaurants and the largest park in Alexandria with bike trails and jogging paths, gardens and athletic facilities and of course, a dog park to take your furry pal. Because everybody should get to have a dog, even in the new urban world.
The Potomac Yard is a concept whose time has come. A Metro rail station is due to be completed in 2020. And did we somehow forget to mention that it’s right on the Potomac River, close to Ronald Reagan Airport and convenient to Old Town Alexandria and Washington, DC?
