Montello Condos For Sale Washington DC

You may hear or read that Montello, a condominium in Washington, DC, is in the trendy Adams Morgan neighborhood. Actually, it is not. The building is at 1901 Columbia Road NW on the western side. And, given that Columbia Road is a borderline, with Adams Morgan to the east and the Kalorama Triangle to the west, that means these cool condos are in Kalorama.

But don’t let that worry you—this is one of the District’s wealthiest enclaves, and is in a slightly elevated area—hence the name “Kalorama” which in Greek means “a beautiful view.” As for the building itself, Montello is wide boxy Art Deco structure built in 1922.

Additional Info About Montello Condominium Residences

Once an apartment building, the Montello converted to condos for sale back in 1986. As a result, some of the residences still have kitchens that were updated at the time of the original conversion, while a larger number have more recently remodeled cooking areas with stainless steel appliances, granite counters and custom cabinets.

Strolling up the walkway from the street, visitors will no doubt notice two identical front doors, side-by-side, sharing the same overhead awning and opening into the same large lobby. The reason for this is pretty simple, actually. Back in the day of genteel DC society, visitors and residents were encouraged to walk in one door, and exit through the other. It’s just how things were done.

There are 38 one and two-bedroom residences at Montello, and some of the one-bedroom models have dens. There’s hardwood floors, large windows, and eight-inch crown molding. All units also have washer/dryer combos, plus extra storage. Condos for sale typically list in high $300s to mid-$400s. Also, the units have either ground floor patios with atrium doors, or rear-facing balconies.

The residences at Montello are just a few steps from the fantastic Kalorama Park, a smallish and nicely maintained triangular piece of turf with a community garden, a playground for kids and places to walk your dog. There’s a nice sense of community here, with the terrific “So’s Your Mom” market and deli, plus a Yes! Organic Market and great local restaurants like Mintwood Place, Napoleon Bistro and Cashion’s Eat Place. Also, Rock Creek and the National Zoo are very close by.

And for those who are obsessed with Adams Morgan, just remember—that uber-trendy urban neighborhood is right across the street! In other words, this is one of the best DC locations that anybody could ever hope for. One side of the street, the beautiful view! Other side of the street, hipsters!
