Main Street Condominium, Alexandria, VA
Main Street Condominium is one of several condo communities within the popular Cameron Station development. Built in 2001, this upscale complex offers 202 one and two-bedroom residences. The official address is 171 Somerville Street. These luxury units are ideally located, overlooking Ben Brenman Park its delightful pond at one end, and a gazebo and circle park at the other end.
Cameron Station itself is an intriguing development, located in the city's West End and redeveloped from a former U.S. Army base that dates back to 1941. The base was closed in the 1990s and sold. The first phase of the project was delivered in 1999 with four more phases since then. In all, there are over 2,000 residences, including condos, townhouses and even detached single-family homes.
The signature look of Cameron Station is a throwback to an earlier era with buildings designed in traditional Colonial, Federal and Victorian styles, along with brick sidewalks and old-fashioned lamps. The community has a small-town “Main Street” atmosphere with small businesses and lots of amenities.
The Main Street Condominium resembles Victorian row houses with arched window casings and front bays. Floor plans range from 740 to 1,140 square feet. Some of the residences have lofts, and some models also include dens. Modern open-space layouts, hardwood floors, high ceilings and lots of light from oversize windows add to the ambience. Also worth noting are the gourmet kitchens with granite counters and upscale appliances, as well as fireplaces, washer/dryer combos and parking. Recent list prices have run from the mid $300s to the $500s.
Cameron Station is celebrated for its many amenities, including the Cameron Club with a great room and full kitchen, plus swimming pool, fitness center and indoor gym. There’s also the Ben Brenman Park, the Armistead Booth Park, tennis courts, athletic fields, a pond and businesses like the Main Street Market, Café Pizzailo and Cameron Café. Residents also enjoy the West End Farmers Market, the adjacent Beatley Central Library and free shuttle service to the Metro station.
