Lynhaven, VA Homes For Sale

Tucked up into the northern portion of Alexandra City is a subdivision that is different from many others in the region. For the most part, Lynhaven was developed during the 1940s and 1950s as affordable housing for blue-collar workers. These days, those same residences have found a new popularity as condos and townhouses for sale. With quiet, tree-lined streets, Lynhaven has become an intriguing magnet for first-time buyers and others seeking competitive prices in the red-hot Alexandria marketplace.

This interesting community was the brainchild of J. Wesley Buchanan, a developer who sought to create opportunities tor home ownership for workers at Potomac Yard, once one of the busiest rail yards in the nation. Located just a couple blocks from the Yard on the other side of Route 1/Jefferson Davis Highway, the first 50 homes were delivered in 1941. Designed in a boxy row house style with generous front porches, the homes were advertised for sale at just $31.65 per month! The fledgling community was named for the developer’s daughter, Rosalyn “Lyn” Buchanan. By the end of 1944, about 300 of the homes had been built.
