Luxury Homes With Swimming Pools in Washington Area

Are you searching for a luxury home with a swimming pool for sale in the Washington Metro area? The ubiquitous backyard splash zone is not as common in the Washington Metro area as some other parts of the country, say the Southwest or sunny California, for example. But fear not dear readers, these rare unicorns do still exist. If you want an even greater challenge, try searching for modernist style homes with pools

Part of the challenge has to do with years of urban development, and the fact that jam-packed landscapes don’t always make it easy to find room for a pool. Even some of DC’s suburbs can lean toward limited lot sizes and hard choices. There have been instances in recent years, of homeowners either removing existing pools or filling them in with dirt. For those prefer Zen gardens or gazebos, we say balderdash! Swimming pools are fun! It is also worth noting that you'll find a lot more pools at luxury condos as compared to detached single-family houses in the DC area.

Where to Find One and What to Look For

When it comes to prospective home buyers desiring a proximity to Washington, DC as well a luxury home with a pool, desirable neighborhoods like McLean, Virginia and Bethesda, Maryland are worth checking out. These residential communities are known for large and stylish detached single-family homes, often with sizable yards. But you can also find quality results further from the madding crowd, in outlying areas like Leesburg, Clifton, and Manassas, still within a reasonable daily commute from Washington but with a lot more surrounding greenspace.

Assuming you’re looking for a property that already has a pool, rather than having one installed, there’s a few things you should consider. First comes the fun part, the style of pool that will make you happy. Are you determined to have an Olympic-sized pool, or will any rectangular shape suffice? Do you want something current and cool like an infinity edge pool? Maybe you want something oval or round, or perhaps the classic midcentury kidney shape will do. There are also the more unusual styles, such as figure-8, multi-sided, or those fabulous grotto pools with waterfalls and rock formations.

In addition to hopeful choices, there are also some practicalities. Pools require regular maintenance, cleaning and pH balance testing. You’ll have to absorb some increases in your utility bill. Your insurance premium will be higher with a pool, and there may also be community or HOA rules and regulations about perimeter fencing. Most important of all is safety, especially when it comes to young children.

There’s a lot to think about, obviously. A swimming pool is one of the ultimate residential amenities, right up there with luxury residences with elevators, or home movie theaters. Finding the right balance between the location, size, style, and cost of your next home can be a lot. Adding the desire for a swimming pool will whittle your choices down even further.
But in the end, it could all be worth it. There’s nothing like stepping out the back door and surveying your own private oasis, replete with a pool, inviting you to jump in.
