The area itself dates back to early English land grants and remained farmland for centuries. Residential development in Lee Heights itself predates some of its neighbors, with some landmark properties dating back to the 1800s. More widespread construction began 1918, continuing with a noticeable boom all the way to around 1960. But even then, building did not cease completely. Indeed, you’ll find a smaller number of new homes for sale that have popped up for sale every decade since.

The result is a delightful variety of styles and sizes. Architecture includes Victorian, American Farmhouse, Colonial Revival, Craftsman, Arts & Crafts, Tudor, Cape Cod, Rambler and various mid-century contemporary types. And while detached single-family homes reign supreme here, you can even find some townhouses toward the southern edges of the neighborhood. Prices for all properties combined generally start in the mid-six figures and climb to over $2 million.

One of the true gems in the neighborhood and all of Arlington for that matter, is Lee Heights Shops on Lee Highway. This colorful collection of businesses Arrowine and Cheese, the Upper Crust Pizzeria, Crisp & Juicy, Pastries by Randolph, Lemoncello Boutique, Child’s Play Toys and more. Also worth noting is the Arlington Artists Alliance with headquarters Cassett’s Café, with indie galleries found throughout the area.

Locals here enjoy gently hilly streets, lots of mature trees, organized community activities and events, the small dog-friendly Lee Heights Park with its restored stream and the larger Zachary Taylor Park to the north. And don’t forget about the golf and country club!
