H Street Corridor Condos For Sale

One of Washington, DC’s earliest retail and entertainment districts—the H Street Corridor—has come roaring back into prominence in recent years. That includes a red-hot real estate market led by luxury condos for sale, both old and new.

This lively corridor has received scads of local and national press as a “hipster neighborhood.” It is also sometimes referred to as the Atlas District, due to the Atlas Performing Arts Center.

Where is the H Street Corridor?

As with many parts of Washington, DC, the H Street Corridor boundaries are somewhat hazy. Generally speaking, the community spans an area around H Street, with bordering streets including Florida Avenue to the north, Maryland Avenue along the southeastern stretch, F Street NE to the south and Second Street along the western edge. Neighborhoods in surrounding areas include Capitol Hill, Carver/Langston, the Navy Yard and Near Northeast.

About the Neighborhood

The H Street Corridor first came into existence in 1849. The arrival of streetcars in the 1870s led to a busy commercial, entertainment and residential mecca. The first Sears Roebuck store was here, as were jazz and other performing art venues.

The area fell into urban blight after the 1968 riots. But it is now fully revitalized and one of the District’s most popular communities. Condos and townhouses are the predominant housing here, with a wealth of row houses in Victorian, Beaux Arts and other historic styles. But there are also a number of newer luxury condo developments as well.
