Forest Hills Neighborhood Information
Set within a wooded rolling landscape, Forest Hills was first home to the Pascataway Indian tribe and was later the setting for Civil War encampments. Mills and country estates gave way to residential development in the early 1900s and the intervening years have provided a smorgasbord of architectural delights. Homes for sale include stately gated Colonials, along with the requisite Victorians, Capes, Tudors, American Craftsman and even Mediterranean, but you’ll also find some push-the-boundaries modern styles.
Wait, back up a moment. What about modern styles? Here in the land of ambassadors and other Washington aristocracy? Yes indeed—the presence of Rock Creek Park inspired some adventurous souls to commission unique modern and contemporary homes, hidden among the trees and sometimes even hanging off cliffs. Renowned architect Travis kicked things off with several angular offerings and other modern designers such as Richard Neutra have followed suit.
While Rock Creek Park runs along the entire eastern border of the neighborhood, other high end suburbs surround it on the other sides. Those include Chevy Chase to the northwest, North Cleveland Park to the west and Cleveland Park to the south.
