Fairlington Commons Condos For Sale
Located at 3367 South Wakefield Street, Arlington, VA 22206
Similar to other garden courtyard developments in Arlington, Virginia, Fairlington Commons is a complex of brick Colonial buildings that were once apartments, and have since converted to condominiums. Located at 3367 S. Stafford Street, this assortment of two and three-story structures are mostly townhouses, with some smaller one-bedroom flats. Surrounded by mature trees and shrubs, the buildings also have connecting walkways and individual courtyards and other grassy areas.
Fairlington Commons is part of the larger Fairlington Villages community that was originally created during the lead-up to World War II. The area was once a massive plantation built in the 1700s by John Carlyle—a friend of George Washington’s. But in the late 1930s, President Franklin Roosevelt’s new Defense Homes Corporation purchased the land in order to build affordable housing for wartime workers and others flooding into the rapidly expanding Washington metropolitan area. The actual construction took place between 1942 and 1945, and at one time, it was the largest complex of apartments in the entire country. Fairlington is often associated with its next-door neighbor Shirlington.

More About Condominiums For Sale at Fairlington Commons
Condos for sale at Fairlington Commons are similar to those in Fairlington Arbor, Glen, Green, Mews and Meadows, all of which went through a massive condo conversion during the 1970s. Generally speaking these handsome Colonial Revival residences are two or three-bedroom townhouses, although there are also some one-bedroom single-story units. Prices typically run from around $300,000 to the high $400s with some exceptions. Residents at the Commons also enjoy their own swimming pool and tennis courts. The complex is also right next door to the Fairlington Community Center and Park.
While all the units were updated at the time of the conversion process, most have been further renovated during the ensuing years. The flooring was originally hardwood, although carpeted over at various stages. You’ll find a lot of new or restored wood, along with custom kitchens and other individual amenities. Fairlington itself got its name from a combination of Fairfax and Arlington, and is next door to Shirlington with its newly revamped Arts and Entertainment District. Arlington Commons is also close to Alexandria’s Old Town and the Potomac River.
