Residential development in the neighborhood began around 1940. There was a pause during the World War II years due to a general shortage of building supplies nationwide. Home construction picked up again around 1945 and continued for the next decade. Architectural styles from this era include Colonials, Cape Cods, Ramblers and other mid-century types. In recent years, there has been some new custom homes built. But for the most part, you’ll find original structures, although many have been remodeled or enlarged.
This is a pleasant neighborhood with large but not necessarily ostentatious residences. Sizes typically range from three to five bedrooms and two to five baths. Those interested in condos for sale won’t find any—the real estate market is all about detached single-family properties.
Residents are close to parks and other greenspace, including Windy Run Park and Zachary Taylor Park. The exclusive Washington Golf and Country Club is also in the area.
