The red brick buildings with a sturdy utilitarian Colonial design, are located in prime Arlington territory, running all the way from Lee Highway to the north and Wilson Boulevard to the south. As far as east-west, the many parts of this sprawling urban community stretch from North Rosslyn to the Courthouse neighborhood. The clusters of buildings, sometimes called pods, are interconnected by paths winding in and through wooded areas and landscaping.
Much of Colonial Village has now been deemed a historic district, and encroaching development over the years has pushed in around the edges of the various sections. There are also associated commercial components as well, such has Colonial Village Shopping Center which now houses popular businesses such as Ray’s Hell Burger.
The massive apartment complex went condo during the 1970s and there’s various quirks, differences, and renovation projects that differ from one section to the next. All-in-all, you’ll find about 1,000 condominiums varying in size, including studios, one-bedroom and two-bedroom models. The largest number of units, however, are one-bedrooms. List prices generally hover in the $300s with some exceptions—often having to do with individual remodels.
Close to two Metro stations and too many shops and restaurants to mention, Colonial Village I, II and II is one of Arlington’s enduring stories.
