Clifton, VA Homes For Sale

There are a lot of very big homes for sale in Clifton, Virginia. Big expensive homes on really big lots. The kinds of homes you could easily get lost in, and that cost millions of dollars. But for those who don’t want to drop a few million bucks, you can also find really big homes for sale for less than a million dollars. Aren’t you happy now?

A reader’s suspicious thought bubble pops up—how much less than a million? How about five-bedroom homes in the $600,000 range? Or four-bedroom homes for sale in the $500,000 range? You probably won’t get the really big lots of land with your really big house if you’re not paying over a million dollars, however.

This incorporated town in Fairfax County dates back to the 1700s. Development picked up at the arrival of the O&R Railroad in 1868. Known for its sawmill and lumber yards, Clifton continued its peaceful existence all the way up to the modern era. But in the 1960s, generational residents start moving out, heading for the cities, or other lands of opportunity. More About the Clifton Real Estate Market

In the 1980s, locals began a revitalization trend, including the naming of a historic district and the creation of new zoning laws mandating minimum lot sizes of five acres for new home construction. There must be a lot of variances that have been filed, however, because you can most definitely find newer homes for sale that are not on five-acre lots. But that’s quibbling, really—the larger point is that a wave of new construction soon took root, ushering in a new era of prosperity and happy home ownership.

It must be noted that condos for sale do exist in Clifton, starting as low as $200,000. Those numbers escalate quickly, however, with larger townhouses listing in the mid-six figure range. And far be it from us to discourage anyone from searching for condos for sale in Clifton. That is a lifestyle choice and it shall be honored!

But the real appeal of Clifton is the combination of beautiful old homes from the past, and beautiful big homes from the present. The town is also known for its equestrian pursuits—there is even a Clifton Horse Society. Located just south of Centreville, with beautiful parks and green space running the length of its western border, the town of Clifton is a very nice place to live.
