Claremont Homes For Sale, Arlington, VA
The community of Claremont in southwestern Arlington is truly a border region, located along the Fairfax County border to the west and the Alexandria border to the south. A significant portion of the neighborhood is also a national historic district, although it is not as old as many of its ilk in Washington Metro. Here you’ll find a specific and fairly narrow range of architectural style, with homes for sale listing in a relatively affordable price range.
Columbia Forest lies to the north of Claremont, while Fairlington and Shirlington are to the south. Boundaries for Claremont include Four Mile Run to northeast, S. Walter Reed drive to southeast, and King Street and S. George Mason Drive to the southwest and northwest respectively. The historic district is in the southwestern portion of the community and includes around 253 buildings.

Development in Claremont began after the end of World War II, with 125 one-and-a-half story Cape Cod houses and 114 two-story boxy Colonial Revival houses built between 1946 and 1949. A pause followed, with 36 Ranch-style homes constructed by the same developer in 1954. The late 1950s and early 1960s found a new wave of modest midcentury homes filling in the area toward the north, along with a sprinkling of 1960s era apartment houses in the northeastern greenbelt area. Many of those apartments were later converted to condos for sale.
Detached single-family homes for sale in Claremont generally range from around $250,000 to $550,000 with a few pricier exceptions. Condos and townhouses are typically in the 200s and 300s. You won’t find nearly as many tear-downs or new upscale construction here, although trends here are gradually evolving.
For the most part, however, this is a cozy and reasonably priced community with winding streets and hilly areas, with homes in the western section often fronted by embankments. There’s plenty of greenspace, including Barcroft Park and Allie S. Freed Park, as well as the delightful trails of Four Mile Run. As for dining, movies and retail fun, the popular Shops at Shirlington Village—also known as Arlington’s Arts & Entertainment District—are located conveniently nearby.
