CANAL HOUSE CONDOS FOR SALE
One of Georgetown’s most iconic buildings, the Canal House was originally built in 1878 to stable horses for the Georgetown Railroad Company. But the railroad was short-lived and soon went into foreclosure. In the 1890s the brick structure was converted into a power generating plant for streetcars, and a century later it was completely renovated and converted into upscale townhouse condos for sale.
Located at 3225 Grace Street NW between Wisconsin Avenue and Potomac Street in Washington, DC’s 20007 zip code area, the Canal House is home to just 35 upscale residences. On the ground floor is office space and retail. The restoration was completed in 1980 as the first stage of the larger Georgetown Park complex—a mixed use shopping and residential development overlooking the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal towpath—a historical waterway that is now overseen by the National Park Service.
One more footnote—portions of the larger complex actually date all the way back to 1838 and a tobacco warehouse that opened directly onto the canal. But all these years later, the Canal House and Georgetown Park have combined for a grand total of 128 one, two and three bedroom condos for sale.
Georgetown is one of DC's most desirable neighborhoods, and is surrounded by several other elite communities, including the Palisades along the Potomac River, Foggy Bottom, Dupont Circle and the West End.
