Braddock Heights, VA Homes For Sale

Braddock Heights is a quiet residential neighborhood about two miles northeast of Old Town, Alexandria, not far from the Arlington border. While located north of W. Braddock Road, it is separate from the similarly named community of Braddock Road which adjoins the Braddock Road Metro Station. With its leafy trees and quiet streets, Braddock Heights feels far removed from urban noise and bustle.

The neighborhood was named after Maj. General Edward Braddock, a celebrated military officer during the French and Indian War who led the efforts to turn what had previously been old Indian paths into a road for troops and supply convoys. Over time, the transportation route would continue to evolve. But the Braddock Heights area would remain farmland for many years, only developing residentially from the mid-1930s onward.

Braddock Height’s neighbors include Beverley Hills to the north, and North Ridge and Rosemont to the south. It’s a small subdivision with only around 500 properties. This has contributed to both high demand was well as sharply climbing values.

Homes built during the 1930s and 1940s often lean toward Colonial Revival and Cape Cod styles, but with a number of variations of those genres due to the different builders and developers working in the neighborhood at the time. The 1950s and 1960s brought some mid-century contemporary homes, and more recently, there has been a modest number of teardowns and new construction. Homes for sale typically start in the high six figures and climb well past the million dollar mark.

This is a great location for commuters who can head straight down Braddock Road to its eponymously named Metro station, or jump on the nearby I-395. Locals are also close to shopping and dining. The Village at Shirlington is right over the Arlington line, while the indie businesses in Del Ray, upscale retail in Pentagon City and all the great shops and restaurants in Old Town are also close by.
