Located just west of Virginia Square, the neighborhood of Bluemont is centered on Wilson Boulevard. In fact, it is in many ways an extension of the trendy neighborhoods that make up the Rosslyn-Ballston Corridor. Yet residents in the neighborhood have also been divided when it comes to evolving commercial development, with many desiring to keep to a more quiet residential way of life.
This is one of the oldest parts of Arlington, with some existing homes that date all the way back to the l800's and early farming days. In fact, the Reevesland Farm dating back to 1865 was the last operating dairy farm in Arlington, and is located inside the pastoral 70-acre Bluemont Park. The farm is a historical landmark and is overseen by the county parks system.

Residential development picked up after the turn of the 20th century, due in large part to Bluemont’s streetcar status. Bluemont Junction was home to three different rail lines—the Washington and Old Dominion (W&OD), the W&OD Georgetown-Great Falls Line, and the Washington, Arlington and Falls Church Railway. With all those converging trains and trolleys, no wonder the town became so popular!
These days, homes for sale in Bluemont come in an array of styles, with some grand Victorians, Colonial Revivals, Craftsman as well as Arts & Crafts homes, and Cape Cods. Newer construction often apes older traditional styles—“Custom Craftsman” homes are particularly popular here. The aforementioned Bluemont Park is one of the neighborhood’s jewels, not only for the historic farm but for a host of amenities, including tennis, basketball and volleyball courts, as well as fields for baseball, lacrosse and football. There’s even streams for fishing! It is also part of the Bluemont/Bon Air Walkabout—named for the terminus of the old rail lines, with a myriad of connecting paths that lead to six different parks in the greater area.
From historical attractions and greenspace to upscale homes for sale, Bluemont is a highly popular neighborhood. And like many other parts of Washington Metro, it is trying to preserve a sense of residential charm while also incorporating forward thinking progress.
