Beverley Hills, VA Homes For Sale

The gracious subdivision of Beverley Hills in Alexandria, Virginia is sometimes spelled “Beverly Hills,” but the correct orthography does indeed contain an “e” before the “y.” Perhaps there’s a deliberate attempt to differentiate the east coast version from the one out in Los Angeles, California. Or maybe there’s no connection at all. Who knows?

What we can say for sure is that this upscale residential neighborhood in the northern part of the city offers a delightful variety of homes for sale, as well as organized events and an authentic sense of local pride. First developed in the 1920s, home building continued to expand over the next two decades. The post-World War II era brought a decrease in new housing starts though not a complete halt. And while the vast majority of residences are detached single-family homes, there are also some condos and townhouses along the northern and western edges.

Colonial Revival and Cape Cod are the most prevalent architectural designs but you’ll also find some mid-century contemporary styles as well. This may be a pricey Washington Metro community but it also feels like a quintessential small-town USA. That has largely to do with social interaction an annual Memorial Day “wheel day” parade (deck those bikes and strollers with red, white and blue), block parties and picnics, and a holiday tree-lighting ceremony. The Beverley Park is known affectionately “the pit” for its sandy playground, and is a favorite place for adults to socialize as well.

And when it comes to shopping, dining and entertainment, residents can simply hop over to the Village at Shirlington, the indie businesses along Mount Vernon Avenue in Del Ray, and Old Town with all its cosmopolitan attractions.
